Max Whitehead

Max Whitehead (1923 – 26 March 2010) was an Australian rugby league player who was the first captain of the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles. He also played for the North Sydney Bears. He died on 26 March 2010 from complications of a hip operation at age 87.[1] While with for the North Sydney Bears he played in their grand final loss to Newtown in the 1943 NSWRFL season.

Aside from his rugby league career, he had been at various times a model, a pilot, and a professional wrestler.[2] In the 40’s,50’s and 60’s Whitehead was widely known for being the first Chesty Bond character. He was also a professional lifeguard and a professional wrestler who went by the name of Max Steyne.

Whitehead's ashes were scattered on Brookvale Oval before a match between Manly and the Cronulla Sharks.
